WHAT IS A 928? A 928 is Porsche's luxury GT sports car, made from 1977 to 1995. It's a 2+2 seater with a front-mounted aluminum V8 (177 to 350+ HP) connected to a transaxle layout (transmission by rear axle for more even weight distribution). The car was solidly built, with a properly maintained engine good for 250,000 to 300,00 miles and up between rebuilds. They are a good deal relative to Porsche 911s and Carreras due to the subset of Porsche aficionados who believe that the only true Porsche has an air-cooled engine in the trunk. The 928 is heavier than a 911, but unless you are a seasoned race car driver you may prefer the 928s more balanced handling and upscale interior. The fundamental design is now approaching 30 years old, but the car is still fast, fun and can be counted on to get attention around town.
