928 FAQ
Q: Is a 928 hard to maintain?
A: A 928 out there is anywhere from ten to twenty-seven years old, and will need most of the maintenance typical of a car of that age. That said, most of the parts can't be had at the local auto parts store, and because the parts are built to a higher standard than most, they will cost more. Check out the "Links" page above for some good sources. The only other major issue is finding mechanics who are 928-experienced -- they can save you money in the long run by not just throwing new parts at problems, and details like the trick to a good 928 alignment.
Q: Can it be a daily driver?
A: Mine is, but only when the roads aren't too deep with snow -- ground clearance is the only real limitation.
Q: Are 928s expensive to buy?
A: 928s are significantly less expensive to buy than 911s or Carreras, but you do want to have a proper pre-purchase inspection to avoid losing the difference in repairs. Up-to-date and complete maintenance records are the place to start. Be willing to pay a little more up front for a properly cared-for example -- the Germans do like to build cars that last.
Q: This FAQ isn't nearly enough information -- where can I get more?
